1. The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) Scheme
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a scheme that helps tackle fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions. Qualifying customers could have their boilers replaced with a more efficient boiler free of charge.*
The even better news is that ECO promotes energy efficiency and renewable electricity, which will help to ensure the security and sustainability of our energy for years to come.
Up to February 2021, the Energy Company Obligation have installed 2,883,639 efficiency measures under the Energy Company to over 2.1 million households – an incredible achievement, and one that we at Towy Valley Heating are thrilled to have been involved with since 2016.
*Most boiler installs have full funding but, in some cases, a small contribution might be required.
2. Do I Qualify for a Boiler Grant?
ECO replaces inefficient boilers for those who are on the following qualifying benefits.
- Child Tax Credit
- Income-Related ESA
- Income-Based JSA
- Income Support
- Guarantee Pension Credit
- Working Tax Credits
- Universal Credit
- Disability Living Allowance
- Personal Independence Payment
- Attendance Allowance
- Carer’s Allowance
- Severe Disablement Allowance
If you are on one or more of these benefits, then you could be eligible for this scheme. However, keep in mind that:
- Your property must also be using mains gas, oil or LPG.
- Your current boiler needs to be at least 5 years old.
- You also need to be the home owner but, if not, there are Private Tenant Grants that you could be eligible for.
3. How to Apply for a Boiler Grant?

4. How is Funding Decided?
All properties are given a lifetime saving score which is worked out using property type, number of bedrooms and wall type. From this calculation, your amount of funding will be confirmed, and this is put towards the cost of your new boiler.
Most boiler installs will have full funding.
5. Boiler Installation
As a qualified recipient of the ECO scheme, you will receive a brand new, A-rated boiler.
